WifiTrak

When you're abroad you don't want to be paying expensive roaming fees when you use any application that sends/receives data. What I did was switch my iPhone to 'Airplane Mode' (Settings>Airplane Mode). This effectively makes the device non-communicable over satellite. This will however still allow you to use wifi (Settings>Wi-Fi to check).

I found myself using wi-fi every day, and using the iPhone's built in wi-fi scanner is a real pain. For whatever reason it simply does not show you all the networks available to you. The solution.. WifiTrack.

At £0.59 this application is great value for money. It allows you to view even the weakest of wi-fi signals. I found this great when walking around a city as usually the networks are labelled something obvious such as 'Starbucks Wifi', for example. Then you can go and buy a coffee KNOWING you'll be able to check your emails (providing the network is 'Open').

Additionally WifiTrak remembers locations and passwords, and you can even remove locations from the list if you wish. This was my most used app, and I never had any problems in any of the eleven countries I visited in Europe.

iPhone Travel Apps

Greetings! So I've recently been travelling around Europe and will soon be reaching further afield to America. Being from the UK I found my iPhone an INVALUABLE tool while away. This is largely due to the amount of helpful travel apps available in the Apps Store.

This blog will detail my experiences with the apps that I used and why they may be helpful to the fellow iPhone-empowered traveller. Enjoy.
